Sculptures

These are my sculptures that I have made in the past 2 1/2 years. These are the ones that I have completely finished and painted. I'm still in the process of painting some so the list will get bigger in time.

Magical Cloud Turtle
This sculpture is a self portrait. I was assigned to pick an artist of my choosing and to make a self portrait but in that artists style. I chose Amy Sol because I love her smooth, soft, and dream-like style. Almost all of her art dealt with animals. I really love turtles, so I decided to make myself riding a huge turtle in the sky.  I couldn't do a huge amount of detail on the turtle since I had to follow Sol's style. I really had to decide how to make a turtle soft and friendly looking, not to mention making myself in that form too.
The sculpture is made entirely out of clay. Once fired, I started covering my turtle with a deep brown acrylic paint all over its shell for a base coat. Then I sprayed on an even darker brown to give it a scaly look. My main focus was on his legs since turtles skin get lighter and has a mixture of peach when going into its shell. I sprayed the legs with four different colors until I got that scaly look. I then had to paint myself, but if I used the same technique that I used on the turtle, I would ruin my turtle's shell. I stayed with just plain colors to preserve my turtle's shell since the turtle plays a big role in showing my personality. After I added the streaks to my characters hair to make it look more like me, it was time to glue the clouds. The clouds are just stretched cotton balls that I curled with the end of a paintbrush to look more wispy. I just had to position them to look like we were flying through the clouds. My sculpture was then complete.

                                                             Droopy Dragon
This was my first sculpture I have ever made. It is one of my favorites actually, since I love dragons and all. Out of all my sculptures I have made I think this piece has the most personality. It's is made out of clay, acrylic paint, and a glaze for the shine. The assignment was to make a sculpture from basic shapes (i.e. spheres, cubes, ect.). It is pretty good for my first sculpture and it is now sitting among my dragon sculptures that I collect.
