Drawings
Cheza
This drawing of Cheza from Wolf's Rain. I drew this sometime in 2009
Final Draft Gryphon
This is a final sketch of a sculpture I made in 2009. Its a gryphon with more of a lion body.
Spirited Away
This was a sketch I did of one of my favorite anime's Spirited Away. I drew this in 2008.
Tablet Drawings
AcidRain
This is one of my favorite tablet drawings I drew in March 2012. I am a fan of the My Little Pony series but I noticed there were no evil stallion characters. So i designed my own evil male Pegasus. I call him AcidRain. I wanted him to have the large and bulky body of the Clydesdale along with the hair around their hooves. I also wanted the long mystical mane that not many (if any) of the stallions have in the series. I went with the more detailed look to add more depth instead of the series line art look. I am quite pleased with the way he came out and love his steel muzzle and enraged red eyes.
Oil Paintings
Through The Muck
18x18''
Oil on Canvas
Created 1-24-11
This is my first oil painting that I made in my painting class. I learned how spreadable oil paint really was and how to work it on the canvas. At first I really did not like it because I was use to acrylic, but now I would choose oil paint over any other paint. The assignment was to pick something in nature and make a 1x1 inch square and put it over the section we wanted to paint. We would then enlarge it making it abstract and only the artist would know what it really was. The picture above is slightly cropped but not much is missing. It took maybe around a month to finish but for my first try I was very pleased with how it came out.
Contrast Parrot
18x20''
Oil on Canvas
Created 2-14-11
This is my second oil painting and so far it is my favorite. The assignment was to find a picture and replace the existing colors with its contrast. I found this beautiful parrot and chose to reverse its colors. Through creating this I found new ways to hold my brush to make it appear feathery. It was confusing looking at the original photo then trying to paint the opposite color since the original color is what you're looking at, you want to paint it. One problem I ran into was since there are so many colors on top of colors in this painting you had to wait for each layer to dry because they would eventually smear into each other and I would lose both colors and the texture. I eventually finished it and was proud of how it came out.
Egg Painting
11x14''
Oil on Canvas
Created 4-11-11
This was my third painting but this one is different because it was a live painting. It was a white egg, on a white plate, in front of a white sheet. This project was pretty difficult to me because you had to finish it in one sitting. I sat by a window and since shadows change over time, what I was painting wouldn't even look like what I was originally painting. One of the main goals of this assignment was to pick up all the mixed shades of white from the shadows, lighting, and environment. So you had to pull colors out of the white but then trying to get the exact paint color was incredibly difficult. I ended up having to improvise on what I remembered since I couldn't finish it in one day. Still in the end it came out looking pretty decent.
Wheat Field with Cypress
18x20''
Oil on Canvas
Created 4-20-11
This is my fourth oil painting and it is a re-make of Van Gough's Wheat Field with Cypress. The assignment was to pick a well-know artist and re-make one of his pieces to learn his or her style of painting. Van Gough was a little hard at first because he uses so much paint to make these thick looking leaves and fluffy clouds. I eventually got the painting style but getting the exact colors he used was very difficult. I ended up having to glaze the sky with a gray to un-saturate the blue a bit to match his. It may not be an exact replica of his original painting but it still looks pretty close. I also had to rush a bit because this was our second to last project of the semester so I needed to finish it to move on to our next assignment. The next assignment is to use the artist's style that we picked and use it on our next painting. Over all I was still happy with the outcome of this painting.
